What will you be financing?

Comunidad Solar is a company whose main mission is to help people become owners of renewable energy we can get from the sun, wind, and water.

The promoter wants to break traditional dependence on the energy market, by creating energy communities that empower their members. To do so, Comunidad Solar buys solar parks (and other renewable generation assets) and then sells memberships to people who become community members, without having to install panels on their roofs.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to invest in a solar park in Murcia, Spain called Cervantina. Cervantina's legal name is Lorenzo Solar SL. The investment will focus on three dimensions:

  • Buy the remaining 50.1% of Lorenzo Solar SL that doesn't belong to the promoter yet (Comunidad Solar currently owns 49,9% of the company and 80% of energy generation rights).
  • Paying back shareholders' loans used to purchase part of Lorenzo Solar SL.
  • Fund the activities to develop the energy community business model.

The investment will allow more people to join Comunidad Solar's model by owning solar panels remotely.

In Spain, around 80% of the population lives in urban areas, where it can be challenging to install solar panels. This model brings an alternative solution to form energy communities and achieve energy independence. Anyone who joins the community will have access to solar-powered electricity at zero cost per kWh for 30 years, delivered through Comercializadora Eletrica, an electric company owned by Comunidad Solar.

What is the impact?

Direct

  • Contribution to the decarbonisation of Spain, avoiding CO2 emissions: With a total production of clean energy of 2 352.24 MWh per year, the solar plant will avoid the emission of about 282.27 tonnes of CO2 per year. This is equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 12 830 trees.
  • Cost reduction for the end customer: energy production through renewable sources, owned by the consumer lowers the costs of the electricity consumed and a lower dependence on the national grid making it less vulnerable to price fluctuations and tax charges.

Indirect

  • Increasing access to renewable energy consumption: Comunidad Solar has developed an innovative model for renewable energy – remote self-consumption. In Spain, much of the population and SMEs don’t dispose of a roof over which solar panels can be installed. They are therefore excluded from the option of traditional self-consumption installations. To solve this, Comunidad Solar acquires big solar, wind, and hydroelectric plants and sells to clients the energy production rights of the plants. With this solution, the clients don’t pay for the energy, only cover transportation, tolls, and taxes. This concept was initiated by Comunidad Solar in 2023, and 750 people are subscribers of this solution.
