• Switching to LED lighting will generate savings of around 53% on current electricity costs (5.445 kWh/year). At the same time, the photovoltaic system for self-consumption will allow for the production of around 52% of the energy consumed locally, accounting for total energy savings of around 25,4MWh per year (the rough equivalent of 9 Portuguese households’ consumption). This corresponds to avoiding the emission of 7 tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere every year or to planting 305 trees. Moreover, this will allow the institution to invest the savings in improving its social care services.
